EXPLORE | YOUR SHORES

When filming on a middle to low budget, you can often be forced into a corner when choosing a filming location. It's up to you as a filmmaker to navigate those corners and use them to make creative decisions to bring about your client's ambitions. #ExploreYourShores #WalesOnFilm #Coastal #Adventure #Exploration #LocationRecce #FineRollingMedia

At Fine Rolling, we embrace the creativity found in those corners on difficult shoots. Recently we’ve been forced to embrace the creative corners of filming in Wales. In doing this we’ve literally gone to the edge of our filming possibilities – to the coast.

When filming down West for our partners, The Bluestone Foundation and The Darwin Centre, we were blown away by the cinematic possibilities on our doorstep and the inspiration that has flown from our experience of working in these environments. Here are some of our favourite Pembrokeshire locations that will hopefully get your creative juices flowing and inspire you to explore your shores.

ST GOVANS CHAPEL

We fell in love with the beautiful St. Govan’s Chapel while on a corporate shoot in Pembrokeshire. We managed to turn this cinematic beauty spot into a key feature in our award-winning short film, ‘Campfire Story’.

We found plenty of hidden treasures while filming here for Darwin on one of their many rock-pooling excursions with a local Pembrokeshire school.

One of the smaller coves on the Pembrokeshire coastline, Church Doors Cove is immediately recognisable for its spectacular cliff shapes. This spot could be a prime location for drone photography.

If you don’t fancy the idea of sand in your sandwiches, or in your lenses for that matter, the blue lagoon is a gorgeous alternative for a coastal trip. This man-made coastal water park is perfect for some dramatic go-pro style photography of cliff diving and underwater exploration.

WHITESANDS BEACH

One of the country’s best surfing spots. Whitesands offers the opportunity to capture some slow-mo shots of extreme sports in action.

Wales is a country crying out to be on film. We urge everyone reading this to go and explore your shores and capture them with your own unique perspective.
